Malaga city center

In the VIII century the “musulmanes”, the Arabs, conquered Andalusia and the country enjoyed a rich period of culture, development and peaceful harmony which is even today unique in history. The castle “Alcazaba” , overlooking the Mediterranean sea was constructed and connected with the Gibralfaro castle on top of the mountain, overlooking the Mediterranean sea. (Picture shows a model.)

Malaga was founded by the Phoenicians, who discovered an ideal place here for trading. Later the Romans conquered the Iberian peninsula, about 200 years before Christ. As a testament to this era you can visit the “Roman theatre”, an amphitheatre that was quite accidently discovered only few years ago.   Sited at the base of the Alcazaba it is being carefully restored.
